Escape was one of the leading adventure anthology series of the Golden Age of Radio. Featuring tales based on works by Robert Louis Stevenson, Alexandre Dumas, H.G. Wells, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the show produced more than 250 episodes between 1947 and 1954.
The episode presented here, “Evening Primrose,” was based on a John Collier short story and told the tale of a group of people living in a department store. It was later adapted into a television musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman.
The Damon Runyon Theater broadcast 52 adaptations of Damon Runyon short stories in 1949. The episode presented here was the 52st episode of the series.
