Our program “Vacation Blues” collects classic progams from some of radio’s classic comedy programs—My Favorite Husband, The Bickerson, and The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show.

My Favorite Husband ran on CBS Radio for 124 episodes from 1948 until 1951. Starring Lucille Ball, Richard Denning, Gale Gordon, and Bea Benaderet, it is perhaps most famous for evolving into the classic television sitcom I Love Lucy. When Ball left the program to move into televison, My Favorite Husband finally moved to television with Joan Caufield and Barry Nelson taking over for Ball and Denning.

The Bickersons was a radio sketch comedy program that aired from 1946 until 1951. It starred Don Ameche and Frances Langford, who played a married couple who spent all of their time in an on-going verbal war. Their characters set the stage for other comedic couples like Ralph and Alice Kramden (The Honeymooners) and even Al and Peg Bundy (Married…with Children).

The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show starred real-life married couple Phil Harris and Alice Faye. It was broadcast on NBC from 1948 until 1954. In the program, Harris and Faye portrayed fictionalized versions of themselves as a show-biz couple raising two daughters in a madcap home.
