Original Air Dates: December 25, 1950
Performance Date: April 10, 2005
Lux Radio Theater ran on the NBC Blue Network from 1934 to 1935, CBS from 1935-1954, and NBC from 1954-1955. It transferred to television in the early 1950s where it ran through most of the decade.
During its first two season, Lux Radio Theater adapted Broadway plays, and later tured to adapting popular Hollywood films for the radio. It became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio. Many leading stage and screen stars, including Agnes Moorehead, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Joan Crawford, and Orsen Welles, appeared in Lux Radio Theater productions—often in roles they originated on stage or screen.
This broadcast of “The Wizard of Oz,” based on the classic 1939 film, starred Judy Garland—reprising her legandary role of the young girl who went “Over the Rainbow”—and Hans Conreid.
